Active with Contract. This is the original home of William Rupp, one of the lead architects in the Sarasota School of Modern Architecture. It was featured in The American Home as "Builder's House of the Month," in 1962. The home's historical integrity has been maintained throughout, with original, built-in teak cabinets and marble counter tops. Each room has a sliding glass door which opens on to screened patios, plush gardens, and citrus orchards. There are two kitchens; the original galley kitchen, outfitted with an oven, dishwasher, and refrigerator and a new kitchen with professional stove, refrigerator, and dishwasher. A large window opens onto the BBQ patio for pass-through service. Original terrazzo flooring is a unifying feature throughout the entire home and is still in excellent condition. The original fireplace is still operational and is lovely during the cooler evenings in January. A separate studio is connected via a screened patio and currently serves as the master bedroom. It's original use was as a mother-in-law's studio and it also has a private entrance and garden. The large parcel and mature vegetation creates an aura of rural living just minutes from downtown Sarasota. Architect William Rupp came to Sarasota in 1953 to work for the world renowned Paul Rudolph. He established his own practice in 1955 and in 1960 won the distinguished Progressive Architecture Design Award for one of his designs.
